GlossaLAB Workshop 2025/Elucidation

From glossaLAB

A fundamental objective of the mapping of information we are intending to do is inquiring on the key concepts used from the different perspectives at stake. We can simply use the common word "information", "clarity", "system", "interdisciplinarity"... and believe everybody is understanding, or we can make it clear to overcome misunderstandings.

The elucidation activity will be specially monitored and guided around the time in which the Workshop is convened, though it will remain open for further editing afterwards.

Creating a user

The first simply step to do is creating a user, identified by your full name and providing a brief research profile of yourself (condensed in a paragraph). Since we will measure the diversity and integration of disciplines when your user has been created, you should go to your user page (e.g. User:Modestos Stavrakis) and select -at the bottom of the edition page- the categories corresponding to the knowledge domains of your expertise (s. Knowledge Domains for the set of normalised categories).

Making contributions

Figure 1: Invitation to create a draft page after searching for the Draft:Clarity. By clicking on the red link, a new window opens to start editing.

Right after, you can just go to start clarifying what you understand by the key concepts you use in a Draft page, wich can be edited and accessed freely before being publicly shown (that will be done when the organisers and authors agree upon). Check first whether the term is already open.

  • If it is already open, review the content and see if some of the given understandings fit yours (feel free to improve it) and add yourself to the list of supporters of such understanding.
  • If the term is not open, you can create a new article draft typing in the search box "Draft:" followed by the name of the voice to be clarified (leaving no space between "Draft:" and the voice), and ending with the congress identifier between brackets (gLw), which stands for this workshop. For example: Draft:Clarity (gLw). As you can see in figure 1, if you are authenticated the system you will be invited to create a new page (and you will also be informed about other pages referring to the same concept).

Preconfigured proposals: If you wish clarifying some of the following concepts you can just click on any of the links and start editing, otherwise, you can open a new page as referred above (not forgetting to add :

How the opening of a new page works?

Figure 3: Example of defining a concept using wikicode.

Be aware that red links correspond to pages which does not exist yet. So following the link, the system will inform about pages that contain the same concept, and if you are authenticated, you will be invited to create a new page (see fig.1). When you accept the invitation — by clicking on the link — a window will be opened where you can directly edit it (either using the visual editor, which is user friendly, or the wiki-code). As soon as you save the changes the page will be created.

Editing the clarification page

Since more people maybe willing clarify the same concept, we are interested in collecting the different perspectives. For this purpose, suppose you are clarifying 'triangle' and your user name is 'Miriam', Figure 2 shows how to enter your definition using the visual editor.

Figure 4: Draft page created after entering the definition and signature.

Observe that, in order to be identified as supporter of that definition, the only thing you have to do is having the cursor after the sentence: "Supporters of this understanding:" and selecting the menu option "Your signature". The system will enter automatically a link to you user page, user talk page and date of signature.

In case you prefer edit using wikicode, four tildes (~~~~), as shown in fig. 3 will be enough to sign it.

In either case, the result of saving the editions shown in figure 4 is the same.
