From glossaLAB
The glossaLAB project aims at developing an interactive open platform for conceptual elucidation and its application to the interdisciplinary co-creation, learning, dissemination and assessment of the knowledge underpinning interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary frameworks (in particular, the general study of systems and information).

[1] This development comprises three differentiated levels: technical, theoretical and meta-theoretical.

  • at the technical level, it is pursued the development of an open platform capable to recompile valuable encyclopaedic contents in a semantically interoperable manner, as well as tools allowing the semantic analysis, visualisation and navigation of contents.
  • at the theoretical level, it is pursued the increase of intensional performance (or reduction of conceptual redundancy) and the further elucidation of concepts, theoretical frameworks and problems not initially considered in the original corpus; and
  • at the meta theoretical level, it is pursued the study of the dynamic structure of the knowledge integrated through conceptual elucidation, offering for the evaluation of the quality of such integration based on both the diversity of knowledge and the integration of the conceptual network.

The Encyclopaedia of Systems Science and Cybernetics Online (ESSCO) and Interdisciplinary-Glossaries as tools for knowledge integration

GlossaLAB provides continuity to three encyclopaedic projects devoted to the general study of systems and information:

  • International Encyclopedia of Systems and Cybernetics (IESC), directed by Charles François

[2],

  • Principia Cybernetica, coordinated by F. Heylighen, C. Joslyn and V. Turchin[3], and
  • glossariumBITri - Interdisciplinary Glossary of concepts, metaphors, theories and problems concerning information, coordinated by J.M. Díaz-Nafría, F. Salto-Alemany and M. Pérez Montoro.

[4] The highest level of knowledge integration corresponds to the Encyclopaedia of Systems Science and Cybernetics Online (ESSCO), which organically hosts the contents of the three mentioned resources. At the same time, it will serve as basis for the development of further interdisciplinary-glossaries [5] as theoretical methodological tool for the integration of knowledge and the evaluation of results in scientific integration (as targeted by PRIMER initiative).
