Sociality can be obtained through interactions either among very numerous individuals in a closely knit collective organization (an anthill, a beehive) or a small group of highly brained long living individuals (whales, elephants).
In both cases, the basic character is thetransmission of information , massively distributed in the first case, or concentrated in specific bearers in the second one.
Human societies obtain probably their exceptionally high power of organization to the fact that individuals are at the same time very numerous, highly brained and long living.
