Object type General information

Expulsion or neutralization by a system of elements coming from its environment and not compatible with the maintenance of its dynamic stability or autopoiesis.

The elements which are absorbed by the system may prove to be assimilable or not. A non compatible element cannot enter in the functional cycles of the system and may very well perturb or even destroy them.

However the systems possess various defensive devices depending of their central control subsystem, and whose specific function is to neutralize the perturbing elements. The best known is the immune reaction, but similar mechanisms seem to exist in any complex system.

The dysfunction of these mechanisms turns defenseless the system. However they themselves may become perturbing agents, when functioning in an faulty way. Allergies and anaphylactic reactions are examples of such negative results.
