- “…an assembly which acts as the immediate environment and the material substance of an evolutionary system” (G. PASK, 1961, p.82).
According to PASK: “The network itself cannot be said to evolve (its possible states are always evident). On the other hand, the active region in the network which is the system we refer to as 'learning' does evolve” (Ibid).
Any network that is able to increase or modify its internal connections is a learning system. It should however seem better to distinguish “learning” from “evolutive”.
The basics of the subject was thoroughly explored as early as 1960 by G. PASK and H.von FOERSTER in their paper on “A predictive model for self organizing systems” (1960-61)
It has been renovated since 1985 by the study of the neural networks and the connection machines.
