The character of the future of a system whose present state and behavior are known.
Only simple causal and rigorously deterministic macroscopic (Laplacian) systems — which are the very rare exception — are strictly state determined. Practically neither the state, nor the behavior of a complex system are ever perfectly known. The concept, and the mathematics that describe it, are however useful within the brackets of situations considered stable in which both conditions are reasonably well known.
Ergodic systems are state determined only in a general stochastic sense… and beware of deterministic chaos!
