- “A forecasting technique used in both Operation Research and Market Research which involves forecasting and goal-setting” (I.G. BLOOR, 1987, p.31).
This is a very systemic technique. BLOOR expresses: “The core part of the technique requires ”total thinking“ exploratory processes (i.e. gathering and analysing data in context and not isolation such as assessing the effects of a new technology on an industrially depressed area). The results are predictions relating to a ”whole future“ for an entire organisation. Morphology is the science of the study of the structure or organisms in a complete state”.
The FUSCHL Group proposed in 1984-85 the use of multi-dimensional matrixes to develop morphological analysis.
- “Each multidimensional intersect would contain information on how the various categories of the various taxonomies of parameters (represented by all axes) interact with each other” (L. TRONCALE, 1985, p.73).
While this kind of matrixes — very complex in themselves — would not yield results of higher quality than the inputs themselves, they should at least offer an all-embracing combinatorics of linkages, some of them probably unexpected and interesting.
