According to J.de ROSNAY, to modelize is to “construct a model, using the data produced by systems analysis: To begin with a complete diagram of causal relations between the elements of different subsystems is established (for example: … influence of natality on population, of food rationing on mortality, etc.). Next, the equations which represent the interactions and linkages… are expresed in a convenient programing language.” (1975, p.112).
The problem is to construct a “complete” diagram. If the elements (or the subsystems) are more than a very few, no complete diagram can be practically constructed. If we reduce the number of components by aggregation, we introduce the problem of establishing sound (in whom's view?) criteria of aggregation.
