The Federation is the organism which coordinates the action of the international and national systems and cybernetic societies.
It was founded in 1976 by the following societies:
- The American “Society for General Systems Research” (Now “International Society for Systems Science”).
- The “Austrian Society for Cybernetics”Oesterreichische Studiengesellschaft fuer Kybernetik, Schottengasse 3, A 1010 Wien — Oesterreich)
- The “Dutch Systems Group” (Systeem Groep Nederland — University of Amsterdam — Groot Bickerstraat, Amsterdam — Nederland)
The Federation has presently nearly 30 member societies, African, Asian, European, North and South American.
Its seat is in Austria, thanks to the kind help of the Austrian Government. Its Secretariat is at Linz University, presently managed by Prof. Eng. G. CHROUST.
It publishes a quarterly Newsletter, featuring announcements of meetings and conferences, reports on the same, bibliographies, comments and general news.
Its official Journal is “Systems Research” (Ed. M. JACKSON).
It also sponsors the Fuschl meetings.
Its President and other authorities are elected for 3 -years terms.

Prof. Yong Pil Rhee was the next President, succeeded in turn by Prof. Michael Jackson and Prof. Jifa GU.
