This Association was founded in 1956 in Namur (Belgium) by a group of Cybernetists (J. DIEBOLD, N. WIENER, L. COUFFIGNAL, W. GREY WALTER, G. PASK, etc…). It received the sponsorship and material help from the Namur Province since its beginning. Its first President was a noted Belgian cybernetist, Prof. G. BOULANGER.

S. BEER, H.von FOERSTER, W. ROSS ASHBY, H. FRANK and R. VALLÉE were also among the early members and collaborators of BOULANGER.

The Association organized a triennal Congress of Cybernetics in Namur since 1956. The 14th, and last to date, took place in 1995. The Association also published the quarterly journal “Cybernetica” since 1958, whose collection is one of the most valuable sources on cybernetics.

In the recent years, a stronger connection between cybernetics and systemics can be observed.

It should also be noted that, under the leadership of H. FRANK, the “Internacia Lingvo”, better known as “Esperanto” was recognized as an official language in the Congresses, along with English and French.

Footnote: Unfortunately the I.A.C. has been dissolved in year 2000, due to the suppression of funding by the Belgian Province of Namur.

“Cybernetica”, the 41 year old Journal of the Association, published its last issue (2/4, 1998) in 1999. Its suppression is a considerable loss for cybernetics
