Admitting reciprocal dependence in organizations and social systems is one basic condition to maintain their coherence and efficiency, as well as the individual physical and psychological well-being of their members and their good social integration.
A first “Declaration of interdependence” elaborated by the workers of the City of Portland Bureau of Maintenance is reproduced in G. and E. PINCHOT's work about the rise of the “intelligent organization” (1993, p.238).
The subject has been taken up by the Fuschl Group (1996) and will probably become a very important part of a systemic social science.
It is also related to the concept of heterarchical organization.
