The stability of functional and structural relations between components or subsystems.

Z.W. WOLKOWSKI recently presented a synthesis of the uses of the coherence concept in numerous disciplines from physics to biology and social sciences, giving very numerous examples (only French ones, however).

He states that: “It deals with space-time relationship, resonance, synchronization, interference, harmony, compatibility and integration” (1992, p.63).

The concept of coherence may be considered as a strong systemic isomorphism.
