- “A system whose organization defines a domain of interactions… relevant to the maintenance of the system itself” (H. MATURANA, 1970, as quoted by R. FISCHER — 1976, p.33).
This MATURANA's view, based on the concept of organizational closure, is now quite accepted.
K. KRIPPENDORFF describes the cognitive system as follows: “A construct, map or maze involving a collection of interconnected items of knowledge or beliefs held by an individual about himself, or about his physical or social environment, including the cognitive system of others” (1986, p.12).
The cognitive system must however be self-constructed, within the limits of inherited biological (and possibly cultural) closure by progressive constraints which channel and limit original potential variety.
