J. ERCEAU and J. FERBER, who are researching multiple agents systems (wherein communication is paramount), write: “There exists presently two types of architecture for communication systems (i.e. in M.A.S.). One instates a communication procedure by shared information, and concerns basically advanced agents, namely cognitive ones. This procedure uses a common space (the ”black-board“), centrally controlled on which every agent writes or reads informations. The other, used indifferently by cognitive or reactive agents, consists merely in exchanges of asynchronic and discontinuous messages from one agent to any other” (1991, p.754-5).

Such devices curiously mimic centralized or decentralized social communications systems.
