As noted by E. LASZLO: “Information flows through the system and connects the various components according to definite functional patterns. Each component receives information, processes it according to the tasks assigned to it, and produces more information which in turn is received by one or several other components” (1974, p.152).
The correct plotting of information flows in the system is one of the basic features of J. FORRESTER's Systems Dynamics. In a more general sense, any kind of network is closely depending on information flows.
Graphs are practical tools to trace and visualize information flows.
