A characteristic of components made of other components of lesser complexity.
For example, molecules are made of atoms, cells are made of molecules, groups and societies are made of individuals.
Complexity in components is not merely the result of an additive process, as it manifests itself by the appearance of emergent properties resulting of the new and specific interconexions among the newly associated elements.
The assembly of complex components seems to be related to complementary dissymmetries, that may even be antagonistic, as long as they are not incompatible. Minimal sets of potentially functional assemblies of components have been called 'autogenetic systems precusors' by V. CSANYI (1989, p.76).
