This definition relates obviously to centralized systems and ulines their main cause of fragility, which can be witnessed in many authoritarian organizations.
However, even in partly decentralized or heterogeneous systems the loss of the central component of critical subsystems may provoke the demise of the whole system, as for example the disabling of the brain, heart or (both) kidneys in a biological system.
