“The totality of constraints holding between the possible combinations of the states of two or more systems” (M. TODA & E.H. SHUFORD, 1965, p.26).

This subtle definition is also satisfactory if applied to subsystems within a system. In fact, what the authors thus define is the concept of “relation”.

In some sense, it must be admitted that “inter-relations” is kind of a pleonasm, but it seems quite a useful one!
