This concept is introduced by M. MARUYAMA who writes: “In contrast to the classificational universe which is substance-oriented, the relational universe is event-oriented…

“Instead of the preoccupation with the ontological or causal priority among beings, in the relational universe, the mutuality of interactions predominate. ”Definition“ is not given by categories and subcategories, but by interactions and interrelations… This should not be misconstrued as ”dialectic opposition“. Its mode is complementarity and harmony, fusion rather than division…
“The relations are many-sided, mutual, situational, and not governed by the principle of subordination, superordination and paraordination. The relational universe does not establish hierarchy” (1966, p.57-58).
