The superseding of an evolutionary cycle by another one.

This notion is introduced by D. DUBOIS and is related to the replacement of older vegetal and animal groups by new ones, with more complex features in their biological organization (1990, p.134).

This is also the case for man as a species and, possibly, is now becoming a characteristic of successive levels of complexity in sociosystems.
