Is complexity a favorable or unfavorable factor of stability in systems?

Any very complex system (For ex. an ecosystem or asociosystem) offers many alternatives for adaptations to environmental disturbances or, in terms of ASHBY, a high degree of variety .

However this adaptability depends on the system's dynamics . A very static system has scarce possibilities to use any availablevariety .

On the other hand complexity should not be confused with the excess of redundant and ill-connectedparts , which use up the systemsresources for their self-maintenance without enhancing itsadaptability and can even reduce it.
