The capacity of a system to pass from growth to steady state.
No dynamic system can survive for long time if it cannot control, limit and finally stop its own growth, because it finally crosses a threshold where neither its internal structure maintains anymore its coherence, nor its environment remains able to feed it its needed inputs.
Genetic controls (not yet clearly understood) take care of self-stabilization at the biological level.
The stabilizing devices in societies are still more enigmatic and would constitute a rich ground for systemic inquiry.
The subject seems closely related to autopoiesis and organizational closure, as well as morphogenesis and morphostasis.
