The character of an hypothesis or forecast that tends to foster this same hypothesis or bring about the forecasted event.

The self-belief in what is hypothetized or predicted exert an influence on the results of the research done or on the future events. Moreover, if the belief becomes shared by numerous people, the effect may become massive. Examples are the opinion polls, which may influence public opinion to the point of producing the predicted event.
