K. BOULDING, who tried to give a clearer content to the term, recognized himself that such a definition is nearly tautological (1972, p.68).

Moreover, the word preference is tainted with anthropocentrism.

Even so, the selector must necessarily contain some discriminating description of what it is supposed to reject or to select among the inputs received from the detector, and the capacity to transmit this information to the effector.
