“Selective reproduction consists of a linear scaling of the fitness values followed by a probabilistic allocation of a number of offsprings proportional to the fitness value of each individual”(D. FLOREANO) et al., 2002-2003, p. 15)

This means that any individual (robot) is “born”with its proper set of characteristics. While adapting only its own behavior , any new characteristic can be transmitted to “individuals” of the next generation but only if compatible with the characteristics of other individuals.

It should be observed however that some aspects of this process are not yet really well understood and that debates and experiments are going on.

One of the participants states however clearly that “learning ”(“ apprentissage”) must be distinguished from “evolution” (see also J.A. MEYER, 1998, p. 46-50)

The bridge crossing from LAMARCK to DARWIN still remains insecure!
