“Any possible action that might assist in resolving an issue” (J. WARFIELD, pers. comm.)

J. WARFIELD introduces the concept in his Interactive Management methodology.

The first and most important stage in design is the generation of options. Systemics opens the way to a wider field of options, as it broadens the field of inquiry and tries to avoid underconceptualization.

After generation, the options must be selected according to defined criteria and categorized. This is done by the group in charge of the design.

In view of the more or less unpredictable changes that the system can undergo, options should be maintained open as long as possible without risk for the system itself.
