The representation of the flows within a network through a matrix.

The matricial representation is complementary to the graphical one, as it emphasizes the quantitative aspect of the flows. As stated by H.T. ODUM “The absence of a pathway in the network diagram is a zero in the matrix” (1983, p.20).
