“The subsystem which moves the system or parts of it in relation to part or all of its environment, or moves components of its environment in relation to each other” (J.G. MILLER, 1978 p.3).

This is the ninth of J. MILLER's 20 critical subsystems of a living system. It is a subsystem that processes matter and energy. In living beings, arms or limbs are motors. In organizations, examples are cranes, tractors, trolleys, moving assembly lines, etc… In the supranational system railroads, airplanes, seafaring vessels, trucks, etc… seem to perform motor roles.
