The number of oscillations per unit of time in a periodic phenomenon

In complex nonlinear systems, the presence of various simultaneous processes accounts for the existence of superimposed periodic phenomena and a globally mixed up behavioral curve, wherein the specific frequencies corresponding to the different processes are embedded.

In these cases, the global aspect of the process frequencies appears as irregular.

Complex curves can be studied through frequency (or harmonic, or spectral, or FOURIER ) analysis, but their decomposition is based either on pre-determined hypotheses, or on pure mathematical technique and, as such, the results are sometimes questionable.

Incommensurability of merely three frequencies in a nonlinear dynamic system is a basic factor for the onset of chaotic behavior.
