A global representation of a more or less extended class of objects or concepts.
M. BODEN states: “ Frames, as defined in ai, are hierarchical, for they can include lower-level frames — as 'vertebrate' includes 'bird' and 'house' includes 'room'. Various slots are defined within the frame, and specific instances of the general class in question are represented by having different details in the (low-level) slots in the frame. A programmed frame will include suggestions for moving around within the relevant part of conceptual space” (1990, p.99).
Current ai frames are to date more limited than human mental frames.
