A measure of the more or less satisfactory correspondence of a problem solution with some stated goal. (adapted from P. DENNING, 1992a, p.12).
This concept is referred to the use of genetic search algorithms, by which trial solutions are cross-bred, allowing “only the fittest solutions (those accorded the highest values) to survive after several generations” (Ibid).
In this way “biological analogies in computing and information analogies in biology” are explored (Ibid).
