In a representation of a field- for ex. a static descriptive figure -“…the only real meaning of the lines is to represent the possible paths along which a third charged body would move (depending on its charge) if it were placed otherwise unhindered in the field”(J. Bryant, 1991, p. 3)

However, in the Chladni experiment with deposition of iron filings on glass surface placed above a magnetic field, the filings do not move anymore and the field is in some sense statically materialized in its effect .
