A design process in which each and every stakeholder takes part.
The classical design process of some specific project by experts — generally without due consideration for the context — leads evermore frequently to great disasters (C. FRANÇOIS, 1989, p.1101-11).
This is a result of single mindedness of the over specialized experts or pressure groups.
The only way to acquire a good understanding of the multiple aspects of any situation is to consult and listen to all those who are enmeshed in it and, when possible after giving them the suitable information, discuss the critical points with them in order to reach consensual conclusions and decisions.
Such a process could be long and painful, but it is the price to be paid in order to avoid still more painful and, in many cases irreversible negative results. Moreover, with time, better co-participative design methods will hopefully be developed.
