The lack of perception of one's own cultural, social and historical conditioning in mental beliefs and psychical processes as well as behavioral attitudes . In fact, the result could be better called “opacity” to whatever else!
J. ORTEGA Y GASSET, in his study of DILTHEY's work (1965, p. 143) writes that man is more alert of his surroundings and much less so of himself. Paradoxically, being transparent or even invisible to himself becomes a very significant blindspot in the management of his relationships with his material, mental and social environment .
This seems to be a fundamental problem specially affecting close-minded and intolerant people. When affecting many people, it can lead to social pathologies .
