This definition from the Template:Ency entity — Template:Ency entity “Glossary of environmental education terms” can be extended to any type of systems. Tolerance is specific to each type of inputs for each type of systems. It can vary according to the state of the system. It may for instance increase if the system acquires some type of resistance or immunity. And it may decrease when it undergoes internal disabling processes. Different systems have distinctive tolerance limits, for different inputs. The tolerance limits of different individuals of the same class or species generally vary somewhat. This is for instance, how and why resistance tend to develop globally, but slowly, in species, against chemical or drug fighting means.
