In a game , astrategy that repeats the opponent's previous behavior .

Thisstrategy can lead either to mutual defection, or to cooperation . Some quite unsuspected and interesting alternatives can emerge if some specific complementary rules are introduced, as for example, the existence of a longer “historic memory ” in the players. (C. EMMECHE, 1994, p.92-99)

Such rules can better explain phenomena of co-evolution in different populations , or positive reciprocity in societies.
