N. GEORGESCU ROEGEN observes: “Not all technologies… are viable. A technology is viable if and only if the corresponding production processes are mutually self-sustaining and also produce a net product capable of maintaining a tolerable size of population.

“The test of the viability of a technology must be applied to a steady state” (1982, p.314).

Sustainable technology is obviously related to homeostasis and autopoiesis.
