BUNGE gives languages as examples of symbolic systems. He extends however the definition as to cover: “… books, tapes, diskettes, blueprints, maquettes, toys, etc. On the other hand a stray symbol, such as a road sign, is not a system, though it may eventually become the founder of a symbolic system” (Ibid).
