A system “to which no events occur” (R.L. ACKOFF, 1972, p.84).
R.L. ACKOFF gives the example of a table “… a static concrete system consisting of four legs, top screws, glue, and so on. Relative to most research purposes it displays no change of structural properties, no change of state” (Ibid).
This is of course a situation defined by the observer's purpose. There are always dynamic aspects in any system, even if, for some reasons, they are not taken in account in some cases.
Obviously, when considered from a static viewpoint, a system is not very interesting.
