- “An open system which either is an organism or can be treated as an organism, where the chief characteristics of an organism are relatively fixed ordering of components, reproduction of the same type or species, and the existence of a life cycle” (O.R. YOUNG, 1964, p.70).
According to YOUNG, the concept, basic in von BERTALANFFY's work, is usable in biology, economics, sociology and political sciences.
Organismic systems are necessarily autopoietic, i.e. endowed with organizational closure.
