DUDLEY who reviewed WEIBEL's book (2000, p. 557-558) insists on the interest to recognize the need for “compromise between varying demands and intrinsic constraints that has yielded present day patterns of physiological adaptation

Symmorphosis seems to be to physiology what d' Arcy THOMPSON's research on structural differences in animal's evolution has been in anatomy. In both cases internal constraints between structures and physiological processes in animals are emphasized and it can be seen that conditions of compatibility, cohesion and efficiency among parts or subsystems are unavoidable need for any type of dynamic systems .
