A process of energy transformation that remains stable during a certain lapse of time.
W. KÖHLER writes“…there are two classes of stationary processes, one with which a minimum, and another with which a maximum of energy is associated” (1969, p.67).
We thus should avoid speaking of equilibrium in the physical sense of the word.
Stationary processes are indeed an essential aspect of the thermodynamics of irreversible systems faraway from equilibrium.
The stationary process is closely linked to the steady state, which is its result.
