In a complex system , the tendency of similar subsystems or elements to maintain a minimum distance between each others.

As graphically stated by M. MARUYAMA: “You would not build two post offices next to each other”(1994, p. 80). This phenomenon is a result of an inhibiting effect . Each element or subsystem needs sufficient resources within a reach that minimizes the costs of obtaining needed inputs .
