A co-evolution process in which, in an environment whose all disponible niches are completely occupied by simple forms , the selection pressure leads to the appearance of more complex forms .

This is originally an ecological principle, which could be related to other systemic features in embracing complex systems.

One is LOTKA's World Engine , which gains global efficiency when more and more specialized (which generally means more complex) transformers become able to use some formerly unused supply of energy .

Selection K also could be related to the subdivision of energy vortexes leading to the qualitative differentiation of channels in energy flows (Ch. LAVILLE)

The process could moreover be related to the general model of fractalization .

Selection K could possibly be translated as a principle of social and cultural evolution , specially under the condition of historically growing use of energy by mankind.
