The spatial separation of different groups through some code of reciprocally perceived deterrent or repulsive signals.
Interactive segregation has been observed among populations of different species of fishes within a common biotope. It results of the production and reciprocal perception of biochemical substances by these species (P. SAGLIO, 1992, p.1292). It should be of interest to find out if this mechanism for optimal use of common resources through diminishing interferences and infighting does also exist under other forms among other species or groups, including human ones.
