- “The replacement of rules of low strength by new rules when environmental situations are ill-handled” (J. HOLLAND, 1992 p.176)
This process is proper to evolving adaptive rules-based systems . It uses recombination .
It leads to “generating plausible replacements for rules assigned low strength”(Ibid, p.179), through a credit assignment algorithm , and is the motor of adaptation in systems of this type.
