Fr. CRICK and Ch. KOCH state: “An object… may be represented in more than one way — as a visual image, a set of words and their related sounds, or even as a touch, or a smell. These different representations are likely to interact with one another. The representation is likely to be distributed over many neurons, both locally… and more globally” (1992, p.112).
One wonders if the same could be true in social networks: A social group or a culture could have complex global representations distributed through numerous interacting individuals, who would be quite unaware of the existence of a global representation. So-called “Public opinion” could be such a collective and complex representation.
