Character of a model “well adapted in relation to some finalities that can be explicited” (J.L.LE MOIGNE, 1977, p.13).
LE MOIGNE opposes “relevance” to “evidence” and quotes the following comment by P. DELATTRE: “It is by way of what we ignore that slogans become inserted into us (the ”evidences“) which, by dint of repetitions, bring us the certainties that our mere knowledge could not justify” (1971, p.22).
The concept of “model relevance” is closely linked to the one of “idoneity”, proposed and widely explored by Ferdinand GONSETH (1945, p.57-67).
The comparison of the concepts of relevance and evidence decisively relativizes DESCARTES first principle, as stated in his “Discourse on the method”.
