G. KLIR proposes the following classification of these relations:

1. Absolute relations: “which are satisfied over the entire time interval of any activity of the given system.

2. Relative relations: “which are satisfied anywhere within a particular activity of the given system”.

3. Local relations: “which apply only within some shorter time intervals of a particular activity” (1965, p.3).

Correlated to these different types of time-invariant relations, KLIR establishes three kinds of basic behavior: permanent, relatively permanent and temporary.
