A way to represent growth graphically.

On such a scale equal vertical distances represent equal percentage change (fig. a and b- from E. DEWEY and E. DAKIN, 1950, p. 242)

The simple arithmetic representation shows growth in absolute terms. The appearent accelerating growth hides the fact that relative growth is merely constant.

The ratio scale is also known as semi-logarithmic scale.
